Does every relationship count?
When we look back, we find that we have had encounters with thousands of people, who have not made it to our present. Most have been passing relationships. Perhaps we interacted with them for a while, but they did not contribute in any way to the real purpose of our lives. Hence, they came and they went without causing so much as a ripple.
On the other hand, there are people, who, over the years, have remained part of our present. We might have lost touch with them briefly, but once the relationship was picked up again, we found that it went on seamlessly.
What then is the difference between passing relationships and relationships that last for life? Passing relationships are with those we have encountered in a superficial way without opening our persona with them, nor disclosed our vulnerabilities; we may have gone by gut feeling that the relationship would remain at the superficial level.
My hypothesis- friends for life, friends forever. Never thought, a small rupture, a small misunderstanding, a fallout over something trivial was enough to end the relationship. There were however, true friends who stayed on despite everything, friends who gave us space to be who we really are and who supported and loved all through our endeavors. There were times when I thought some relationships were meaningful but, they were not meant to last. They served a certain purpose at the time, but I outlived and outgrew those short term purposes.
It is all part of transition we go through in life and the passage of time that helps us to come to the realization that we could never be able to sustain all relationships as meaningful ones. Some of necessity must be passing ones. As for the relationships that last, let us nurture them; keep them alive, because in the long run, these are all that matter.
Don't grieve for what is gone, they were never meant to be yours...
