"Prostitution still is not legal. I don't think there will be lot lost by considering the ordinance void." - Susan Burke.
This is the day where I get disappointed by the fact that there's only so much you could do as a person. But then at least a few eyes will be opened by this post.
Wonder, where this is going? Well, the other day I happened to have a glimpse into the darker side of this hypocrite society by which I mean into the lives of the sex workers. P.S. If you are one of those hypocrites that judge people based on who they encounter, please take your eyes off to another page.
So, yes I met these sex workers transgenders mainly. It was disheartening to learn about the kind of life they live and the hardships they face. It's not at all fun and play - have sex , take the money and go home life. For starters, they are not accepted as a part of the society, this so called civilization. Hypocrisy being it's ok to have paid sex in the deep and dark hours yet its not ok to accept they are humans and pay them a little respect. Get this men out there, they are not your SEX TOYS. These sex workers have choose this source of income because you the society forced them into it by making them feel unacceptable, by denying them the perks and privileges other 'normal' humans are graced with.
It's not all sugary living the life of a sex worker. They are raped and murdered and no legal action is ever taken. The cops standing right around the corner would not move a muscle despite witnessing the whole scenario of them being molested. They fight their own fights. One out of the abundance clients they adhere to is tested with HIV positive, the one would not even bother to inform them. Hence, leaving these sex workers prone to HIV and other such sexually transmitted diseases.
Many argue why prostitution? Well, think of it this way, if not prostitution, are you ready to hire a Hijra at your ostentatious work place? Despite them being qualified? No you won't because you are way too worried about 'log kya kahenge'? Then how do you suppose they shall earn their bread when you can't even talk to them straight face? You think this is a filthy profession against , the norms of your so called civilized society? Then do something about it, start by treating them with a little dignity , by treating them as normal humans. Also, Did you ever think about those elite and not so elite clients that visit them? Would they not be sexually frustrated and opt for unsafe alternatives? Isn't sexual frustration one of the reasons the rapists exist?
In my opinion, prostitution should be legalized in order to create a safer environment for us all.
Prostitution happens because of troubles one had. In reality, no one would choose to do that.
